Help / Re: Blockland "/" key not working
« on: March 20, 2012, 05:31:22 PM »
Odd, usually if it were the eHome infared transceiver it'd be more keys; do you have a program active maybe something with an overlay that has a keybind or something?

Is it /only/ the "/" and "?" not working or are all the standard keys for that issue broken?

Help / Re: How to name your dedicated server?
« on: March 20, 2012, 03:41:55 PM »
To launch a dedicated server, you must create a shortcut to "BlocklandLauncher.exe" which is inside of the My Documents folder with the arguments -dedicated -map skylands.
Do that.

By default it will be [Yourname]'s server.

"Blockland Dedicated Server" program included with the game in the Program Files
Someone feel free to correct me, but I'm pretty sure this is just an obsolete old version of dedicated server hosting; there should only be two files in your program files folder - BlocklandLauncher.exe and Uninstall.exe. Anything else is just the ghost of an old version.

When joining your own dedicated server that is in your home network, you will probably need to query LAN to join, rather than query internet.

There are plenty of posts around explaining how to host dedicated servers without that .bat, I won't bother repeating that.

Help / Re: Addon folder won't change.

Yeah, since the new launcher has been released, the add-on folder in program files is obsolete and is effectively just an archive of your pre-launcher add-ons.

Make sure you are
putting the add ons in the folder located in User/Documents/Blockland

Off Topic / Re: Can somebody suggest to me a good video editor?

Even though I'm an avid windows user, I have to admit final cut is probably the best piece of video software I've used, not really worth the money unless you're using it in a professional context though.

When joining your own dedicated server, if hosted in your home, you will need to query LAN to join it correctly.

Note: This will not verify whether your ports are forwarded/UPnP is working.

And do the things SPooK suggested. Also, check your software firewall isn't blocking it; sometimes if they update they re-define rules etc.

this needs to be sticked
No. It's full of ambiguities and inaccuracies. Guides should be comprehensive, step by step and not contain sections that say
* Where to find it on Mac is unknown for me cause I have no Macs.
When the answer can usually be found just by searching for about a minute.

There should also be a requirement for guide writers to be able to form understandable sentences.

I don't understand why you see the need to instruct people on how to use the console when you haven't instructed them how to host fully (Port Forwarding, UPnP etc.)

Also the ability to edit in the help forum is non-existent; try to avoid spelling mistakes.

Your description of a number of things only applies in certain circumstances, and with a little bit of research you could cover a number of other bases, why not do that?

I'm getting slightly irritated at the amount of people trying to post badly thought through tutorials. If you look through this forum you can probably find at least 2 on every topic you can think of.

Help / Re: Port forwarding is being a biach
« on: March 11, 2012, 10:05:23 AM »
As phflack said, you could try UPnP, but if that isn't an option for your router it may be a case of the settings not applying correctly.

Certain routers have a "save settings" down at the bottom, so they may be there at first, but if you don't click that, it doesn't save. Some require restarts after just about everything; if in doubt if you're doing it correctly, check the guides on www.portforward.com

Help / Re: Can't join most servers (But anyone else doesn't have a problem)
« on: February 23, 2012, 03:30:28 PM »
I've never found a problem hosting via UPnP, my servers have ping etc.

It may be that the user has UPnP and a port forwarding rule in place, which has been shown to cause issues before.  Or it may be that port forwarding is used but the host hasn't checked the box in-game saying "Disable UPnP" or vice versa
