Help / Re: Can someone explain to me, Relay Events?
« on: August 31, 2009, 03:29:14 PM »
Relays arent really complex atall, they just in essence activate other events.

Well... A relay is like an electrical impulse or signal in a way. If you tell a brick to fire a relay to another brick... It fires this "thing" which makes the other brick do stuff.

Example
Brick1:
On Activate> Namedbrick - Brick2> FireRelay

Brick2:
On Relay> Self> Do stuff.

I find relays useful if, for example, I am making lots of bricks do the same thing, but at different times. I will make the start brick fire a delayed relay to the bricks (at different times) and then just copy what the recieving bricks have to do. This saves making all the events in one brick and ending up with lots of events.

Yes, we are still alive (no portal songs please), but the large majority of us dont post on these forums atall. We have our own forums and we just hide away in the damp corners of them, waiting for someone to come so we can nompf them.

Help / Re: How would I go about making a long-term unlockable system?

Relay spam it?
Change the input to OnRelay
and just do a relay loop - Note - THIS MAY LAG LIKE stuff.

So OnPlayerTouch (have it as like the spawn brick)>Self>Fire relay.
OnRelay>Self>FireRelay
OnRelay>self>ifplayerscore[greaterthan][0]
onvaraibletrue>client>incscore[-1]
onvaraibletrue>client>addvariable[score][1]

Meh.... Probably a better way to do this.

k thanks is there any way i can get it to work without lowering my firewall?
if not its cool
Most firewalls have an "Exception" function... Which lets you define programmes as being safe, basically letting them have access... See if you can find a function in your firewall.

Sounds like its having trouble saving to the config file.... Are you on Vista/XP? If so make sure the blockland folder is NOT read-only.

I use variables V4 :x
Then Im not too sure on how you would directally translate score to a variable, becauise v4 didnt have the equivilent of replacers :/  Im guessing your entire save is on V4 so I wont even suggest you get v5 because I assume you have done alot of work on it.

Im sorry but I cant think of any other ideas on how you would pull this off, other than scripting a new event (or getting someone else to).
I am not good with events however and I am sure somebody else will be able to think of an answer (I hope).

Aww crumbs no edit :
Anyway Im not sure if trying to use a variable replacer inside a mod variable would work... using the replacer as a value... but you could try.

Maybe theres something you can do with variables to save points that could be a variable. I don't know how much your in on variables though. Other wise ask Chrono or Truce. They might know what to do.
Yeah I believe if you got it to assign the points to a client variable, the variables would save through death and (maybe) minigame reset.

Something along the line of (with the new vce v5)
OnWhatever>Self>VCEModVariable>Client    PlayerScore    Add    <var:client:score>

Help / Re: Spawn in wrong map on my dedi
« on: August 27, 2009, 02:37:42 PM »

So, I close it, then run the dedicated.bat, but for some reason, the map is on bedroom
I know my dedicated always does this, there may be a command line you have to change.

and when I go to change the map, no maps are in the admin menu after you hit "change map". Any help?
This is what I find odd... Your dedicated just doesnt pick up any of the maps, or something like that. Could you post your console.log please?
