Off Topic / Re: Political Compass Test?
« on: August 06, 2014, 04:01:11 PM »
This test is loving stupid. The questions aren't even loving political:

If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations.
The interests of trans-national corporations are the interests of humanity because the corporations are made up of humans. It may not be the entirely of humanity, but the question is slanted anyway. Who the forget would agree with the statement "the interests of the few are more important than the interests of everyone?" If that's how people thought, murder would be legal and prisons would be nonexistant.

I'd always support my country, whether it was right or wrong.
What's that even got to do with your political compass? Being patriotic is irrelevant to how left, right, authoritative, or libertarian you are. It's simply how much pride you have in your country.

No one chooses his or her country of birth, so it's foolish to be proud of it.
Again, that's not a political question. That's more of a philosophical question.

Our race has many superior qualities, compared with other races.
Is this question literally asking "are you tribal?" What the forget good does that do in a test of your political compass? Are they just hugely stereotyping right-wing people as tribals and using that question to see how right/left you are? That's loving offensive no matter how you look at it.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
It's a huge stretch to say that this is asking your position on international wartime politics, but most people wouldn't even interpret this question that way.

Military action that defies international law is sometimes justified.
This is really the only question on this page I can see being linked to your political position. It's asking how tightly bound to the rules military action should be, which is a political opinion.

There is now a worrying fusion of information and entertainment.
This question doesn't even loving make sense, let alone have to do with politics.

I'm not even going to finish taking this test.

Code: [Select]
if(%a)
echo(%b);
else
echo(%c);

Code blocks retain tabs.

There we go :D

They aren't legos but the similarity is clear.

Claiming that Blockland is for children because it is resembles something that is made for children is like saying that lead paint is for children because it's like finger paint.

Done.

To make my first post clearer: I was directly referring to how OP writes on the topic that he doesn't want any drugs are bad for you bullstuff. It's feeble for anyone to assume you are not gonna get that on a forum for a kids game full of kids

We don't assume that nobody's gonna come in here and stuff on our parade. You're literally doing it right now. We just hope that if one cunt goes away it'll be worth every last letter in the OP. But, if we really thought it'd do something, it'd be at the top of the OP in bold letters.

The game isn't designed for children. It is objectively not designed for nor marketed towards children. In fact, it's barely marketed at all. But the marketing that does exist, e.g. the trailer clearly shows that the game includes non-child themes such as violence and gore. Blockland is not marketed towards children.

LEGO is marketed towards children in every way. LEGO is not affiliated with Blockland. Claiming that Blockland is marketed towards children because it is based around something that resembles something marketed for children is like saying that lead paint is for children because it's like finger paint.

That's actually done by SMF it looks like... I tried it on IE and it does the same thing.
Oh, alright then. It still ruined my example of how tabs are inferior to spaces.. it literally used spaces :/

exactly, lua makes it easier to program.

The fact that that image exists is a loving disgrace to programmers around the entire loving world. Holy stuff I've never seen a bigger form of incompetency.

You do not script for games using programming languages. Nobody wants to use C++ to write mods except me, and I'm crazy. Verbosity is a plague to programming but taking something that's one command is no accurate show of verbosity. Here's some more accurate comparisons:

C++
Code: [Select]
auto someOtherNum = 24;
for(auto someNum = 0; someNum < 30; someNum += 3) {
    if(someNum == someOtherNum)
        break;
}

Lua
Code: [Select]
local someOtherNum = 24;
for someNum=0,30,3 do
    if someNum == someOtherNum then
        break
    end
end

Wow. Huge difference, right? Aside from the fact that Lua collapses the for statement, they're virtually identical. Now let's see what happens if we don't just want a basic incremented for loop:

C++
Code: [Select]
int someOtherNum = 24;
for(int someNum = 0; someNum % someOtherNum != abs(someNum - someOtherNum) || someNum > someOtherNum; someNum += someNum/abs(someNum)) { }

Now, see, in this case I'm using a non-standard conditional statement. It's not just a less than. This completely breaks Lua's for loop, and we can't even use it anymore.

Lua
Code: [Select]
local someOtherNum = 24;
local someNum = 0;
while someNum % someOtherNum ~= math.abs(someNum - someOtherNum) do
    if someNum > someOtherNum then
        break
    end
    someNum = someNum + (someNum / math.abs(someNum))
end

The reason I'm putting this out here is that while something that isn't even a program is shorter in Lua, that doesn't mean everything is easier. It doesn't even matter anyway, 'cause I've got major beef with the fact it does that in the first place. I didn't forgetin' tell it to import console I/O functions. Why would it do that for me? Now that function I wanted to name print[/i] has to be called printA or something because Lua decided that it needed to import a function I'm not even trying to use.

Tbh this topic doesn't even belong here, on a forum, for a game designed for tween year olds.

Out of all the places to post this why on the Blockland Forums? Lol

Technically the game isn't designed for any particular age group. It's just a sandbox game, the fact that a younger crowd is attracted to this game is irrelevant to design.

Regardless, it doesn't matter. There are people on this forum that aren't tweens, and we need places to go and talk about non-tween stuff. There's worse stuff here: special interest threads, furry threads, semi-nudity (hot [anime] girls) threads, etc. Just because most people aren't in the right age group for something doesn't mean none of us are. The OP even says don't do drugs before you're 18.

Only pressing one key > having to press two keys. A beginner especially might find this two spaces harder to create consistency
If you want smaller tabs, most code editors allow you do adjust tab size

I mean, I can tap my space bar twice in approximately the same time frame it takes me to move my ring finger off of the a key onto tab, press it, and move it back. As I said it, it's just preference, neither is inherently better or worse.

Most code editors do allow you to adjust tab size, but when viewing it outside of that code editor (e.g. on GitHub) it looks bad to me.

Also, when I used to be gung-ho for tabs I used to have to copy paste a tab from notepad into the editor box on the BLF and then ctrl+v every time I wanted to indent. Now I don't even have to think about it.

loving Google Chrome. It literally auto converts tabs to 3 spaces. Highlight that stuff and see.

I shouldn't eat anything spicy, makes me sick. Nor should I eat any greasy due to heartburn.

Because of this comment I decided to eat extremely spicy Thai food tomorrow.

I like deep passionate kisses. Even just watching the kiss is plenty. I would hardly call it a special interest though.

nah that's normal i like those too

well, I like 'em with a girl I like. The worst is when a girl is kissing you that you don't want to kiss and you don't want to be rude and be like get the forget off me, so you just sit there like wiggling your lips while thinking of ways to get out of the situation.
