General Discussion / Re: Donation Systems for Servers
« on: November 08, 2013, 11:42:57 PM »
Do you guys think making in-game content for donations is right/fair?
I think it depends. I don't think giving someone huge, gamebreaking benefits for donating is fair (like gamefandan's +100000 level boost) but vanity content or small benefits is fine imo. Or like a cash shop where you can unlock other things by using either an ingame currency or real money, but again nothing game-breaking.

no, silly
i meant like when you're leaving, why don't you just have someone open the gate

what is the specific detail that i am missing
wat? when you're leaving usually you just pull up to the gate and there's a sensor that opens the gate for you.

no one wants to stand guard 24/7
HOA charges all homeowners a fee every month that they usually use part of to pay the gate guard(s).

EDIT: wait wait, how can your friends get in. If they are dropped off don't you need to prove you live there? And if you don't need proof to enter in a car ask the driver to give you a ride. How could you be this dumb and either a lie or b. not ask for a ride from the driver.
You call a number and give them the name of the people who are coming, then they give their name and they open the gate for them.

Safety deposit box.  Nobody robs banks anymore, smarter to try houses.  Less risk, fewer panic buttons, better chance of good cash on hand.
I didn't say banks aren't safe. I just said that it's easier to keep virtual things secure while keeping them on-hand than physical assets. You could also keep your laptop with bitcoins on them in the safety deposit box.

Wow I couldn't put that together without your help, thank you. No stuff crime is lower, you don't have to talk to everyone like they are beneath you. I was more referring to the fact of choosing to live somewhere in which there are such strict regulations and rules.
Because the HOA does an enormous number of things. They pay for property upkeep that isn't owned by people, ensure houses look nice, prevent people from blasting music all night long or hosting ragers when you have work the next day, keep property value up, and provide a medium of settling neighborhood disputes. I personally wouldn't want to live anywhere that doesn't have an HOA, when I look outside I don't want to see people's rusty old cars up on blocks where it's been for years or overgrown dead grass. If you want to have all that stuff on your property, move somewhere without an HOA. I personally have never felt bothered by the HOA, the only time it was ever even close to a problem is when my family wanted to get a hot tub and we had to ask permission from the HOA because it could be bothersome to the neighbors, but all we had to do was ask our neighbors on each side and they both said no problem.

bump, what do yall like in the way of driving music?
i like some nice chill hip hop, like Nujabes and Ice Cube, maybe a some softer more ambient electronic music like Andre Michelle's stuff
I like fast paced music for pretty obvious reasons.

Also, yesterday someone complimented my turbos. Wtf? It was at a car meet too, I'd expect people to know the difference between natural aspiration and forced induction in sound.

I meant slip in the terms of getting through the gate, not by doing it without being caught.
I'm sure if their house alarm goes off it alerts whoever is on duty.

That's loving crazy. Why would you're parents choose to live in a stuff stain of society like that?
I don't know, maybe for the immense protection offered by gated neighborhoods? It's not a question of if they work, because crime is drastically reduced within gated neighborhoods.

Its basically just a huge second door to every house, seems kinda pointless aside from what you said about trapping them in.
I've said this multiple times, but I'll bold it to make it obvious: the point of a gated community is to keep people out, not keep people in.

Also, doors can be circumvented. You can break in through a window. A gate that extends around an entire community can not be circumvented by vehicle.

Those are small things, but going as far as to living in a place thats locked down to anyone on foot, period is kinda pointless. I understand having a safe and locking your doors and such.
It's not that it's locked down to anyone on foot, period. His just happens to not have a pedestrian gate, which I agree is dumb. It's to keep people who aren't supposed to be there out, just like a lock on your door. Anyone that's supposed to be there, whether you own a house there or someone who invited you to their house is welcome in, and everyone's welcome to leave. Furthermore, if burglars did get in to the gate and broke into your house, the gate guard could lock the gate to prevent them from leaving and gate cameras would catch their plates.

Gated communities are the dumbest thing ever, what is the point?
What the forget? I don't even live in a gated community and I feel like this is one of the stupidest things I've ever read. What's the point of a safe? What's the point in locking your front door? Why lock your car? Hell, may as well leave your doors open.

Gated neighborhoods have a synonym.  Luxurious jails.
Wtf, lol. I'm not sure if this is jealousy disguised as hatred, but there's not a single similarity between a jail and a gated neighborhood except the idea of protection. You can leave whenever you want, what they're pissed about is them opening the gate by force. They should have a pedestrian gate. If they don't, why can't you just bring the gate remote with you when you leave or if it's sensor activated wave your hand in front of the sensor?

why does anyone think bit coins are any easier to secure Lol.
Because Bitcoins are virtual. You can hide them on a server somewhere in an encrypted file that nobody can crack if you really want to. I'm not saying it's impossible to have them stolen, but compared to hiding a lump of gold or an art piece or simply tons of cash, bitcoins are easier to secure.

you run the risk of blockchain getting compromised
Which, compared to the risk of your computer getting compromised, is virtually null.

Any of you guys ever use an electronic hookah? Not an e-cig, one of the badass flavored ones. I've never had food in my life that tastes as good as hookah pens do.
