This is a bad idea, as whenever I used automatic weighting things went all forgety and it took HOURS to "touch up". In this example, it's likely that the bones for one leg will also end up moving parts of the other leg as well.

I believe that problem is caused by the bone envelops not being setup correctly.

Edit:

The envelop of a bone is basically the area around the bone in which vertices will get weight applied to them:  I think.. >_>

That is the Catapult from MechWarriors: Living Legends.

I'll probably make that eventually, but it will be included in my MechWarriors pack. (Already started the first mech)



I've finished drawing the design for a mech, it's quite simple and blocko, so it should work fine. I'm going to start the model later today.

Gimp is pretty bad. Paint.net is much better, but I use photoshop.

also I have a problem. I've been trying to set up the rig for my games main character, and I don't see how you can mirror the weight paint onto the other side on the other bone.

You can have Blender apply the weight automatically.

-While in weight paint mode, select a bone and press 'w'
-Select one of the options from the drop-down menu that appears. (I usually pick the second option, but they both work. I suggest trying them both, to see which one works best for your mesh.)

You will need to do this for each bone.


You may also need to touch up some bits.
