General Discussion / The power of admin.

I've been to a lot of people's servers, and I've seen a lot of different ways that people choose to give out admin to their players. Some people give it out for nothing. Some people require you beat some kind of challenge. Some people require you become their best friend. And some people won't give it out at all.

What about you? What does it take for you to give someone admin? And what about taking that admin power away from them?

I tend to throw admin around quite a bit. I basically just ask the person why it is that they want the power of admin, and make a decision from there based on what I've seen of their behavior so far. The best thing is, the people who want it for no reason tend to leave right away because they know they have no reason, and won't get it. :) I've only ever had to take admin away from someone once. They ran around telling people to give him their trust and join is mini, because "HE WILL BAN". -_-

I think it's just important for the host to think about the abilities they're giving a person by giving them admin. If the host is surprised to find out that they've just allowed a noob to run around and destroy everyone's builds, he needs to lurk more. That or lose his internet privileges. >_>

General Discussion / Why do you have this add on?

I go to a lot of servers where while I load, I look at the loading bar and see that I'm loading something that seems completely unrelated to anything on the server. Be it weapons, vehicles, sounds, music or mods, sometimes there's just certain add ons that seem useless. I find this to be the case with music most often, since I stupidly decide to download music. I can honestly say that I think that "Rock and Roll McDonalds" is the most useless song add on I've ever had the displeasure of having burned into my ear drums. And yet, I've never been able to avoid having it downloaded when I download music from a server. I don't know why so many people have it.

I just don't see what's so hard about disabling the add ons you aren't going to need for your server. Because let's face it, most of the people who have the huge lists of weapons on their servers, are probably never going to use any of them. It's just a waste of time for whoever is trying to join a server.

Share your experiences of people having useless add ons on their server.

General Discussion / The focus of Blockland.

What do you think the focus of Blockland should be? More specifically, what do you think upgrades needed to be given to in the future?

I myself think that events are good for a long while, and seem to allow us to do just about anything with our bricks. I don't think anything needs to be done to them. I think weapons are focused on FAR too much. Every weapon I see just seems to be some kind of gun, that does the same thing. Aim. Fire. Kill. It's been a while since I've seen something added in that has a unique function, like the homing missile, the timed bomb, or even the Ion Gun. However, I think new bricks could always be added. I'll never complain to new bricks being added, of any shape or kind. But that's just my personal preference. I love seeing the build. Actual functionality is just an option, to me. I also like hearing-- I love having new sound effects or music to put into the build. So in that respect, I suppose I enjoy functionality. And finally, I want to see some kind of upgrade to the color set system, so that more than 64 colors will be possible.

I notice a lot of people coming to servers and telling people what add ons they need to get. I can understand constructive criticism, but I can also understand when that turns into just flat out bossiness.

Constructive Criticism Example - Going to a server with "Good Builders Needed" in the title, and suggesting they get a certain brick to allow the builders to build more.

Bossiness - "NEEDS MOAR desu WEAPONS"

And, since this is a thread I made, I'm sure you can tell that I'm going to be focusing on the second type.

It doesn't seem to bother me too much when I see it happening to someone else, but naturally, it bugs the hell out of me when I'm hosting the server. It's MY server, with MY add ons. Why should I conform to your standards so you can build something completely unrelated to the server!? My server is doing just FINE without the Mininuke, the Minigun, Unlimited Mining, RP Mods, and all those other frequently used add ons.

So. Do you ever tell someone they need to get an add on? Do you see justification for doing this? Have you done it yourself? (I for one, have. I remember a day that I went through nearly the whole server list, just asking "DO YOU HAVE THIS MUSIC?", and leaving when they would say no.)

Suggestions & Requests / Hex Colorset, and a Question.

So my suggestion, I guess could be directed at Badspot as well. I'd like to see a full Hex Color Set. Something with a ridiculous amount of colors, like this. There's a problem, though. Apparently, each color set can only have a total of like, 64 colors or something, or else the server crashes. This, to me, just seems like something that should be... "upped" a bit, y'know? Maybe not straight to a full Hex Color Set, but MORE than just that, to allow more colors. This brings me to my question : Why is it that 64 colors is the limit? Why can't there be more? What's restraining this? At the moment, I'm sure it seems impossible, but I get the feeling that it's something that could probably could be changed in the future. I mean, it wouldn't be the most advanced thing a video game has done up till now.

So. Could someone manage, even though this is probably a ridiculously challenging request, to come up with a way to allow more colors in a color set on Blockland?

General Discussion / Is typing "LAG" going to change something?

Something I notice about whenever it lags is all the people who find it necessary to immediately exclaim "LAG!!!11!1" directly after it happens. This doesn't make sense to me, for multiple reasons....
1) Lag can be client sided. You might be lagging because of something happening with your own computer.
2) Half of the time people say this, it's clearly obvious as to who's causing it and/or why it's happening. I've also noticed that the person causing it usually is the first person to say it, too.
3) Is stating what's happening going to do something that I'm not aware of? I don't think so. It hasn't happened so far. So why do it at all?

Like a lot of things, it's not necessarily affecting me at all, but I can't help but be annoyed by it, for some reason.

Discuss lag; what causes it, people saying "LAG" when it happens, and why people do this.

Help / Spawning with the Team Mod

I've been to Team DMs, and players on certain teams always spawn in the same place. I can't get this to work for some reason. I put people on a team, and they don't spawn on the spawn points at all. How to I make a spawn point only spawn people on a certain team?

I think the name is fairly self explanatory.

We have crests, for 25° and 45° ramps. But they're only right side up. Could we have a version of them pointing DOWN, please? I've never seen anyone talk about this, but I doubt I'm the first person to suggest such a thing. But they'd be a great addition to the already enormous amount of bricks we've gotten recently.

My GOD! I swear when I joined in 7th grade two years ago, everyone was in highschool! (Or at least smarter than me. But that doesn't say much.) This amazes me, really. I've been finding more and more young kids on Blockland, which I guess explains the apparent wave of many new concepts, such as extreme family values, extreme fear of swearing, and extreme fear of women.

I just feel so.. old. And smart. I can't decide whether I like it or dislike it. One thing's for sure, though. These kids are going to have an extensive knowledge of the Interwebs if they keep at it! >_>; (To be honest, Blockland was the first time I had ever delved into the world wide culture of the web.) Have you noticed the large amount of young children on Blockland? When do you think it started?

Boy I'm gonna feel awkward if a 6 year old sees this.

Drama / Framed! I was framed, I say!

Here's the recipe for framing someone for weapon spam.

You'll need...
-The willingness to build something.
-A troll.
-A badmin.
-And about two hours of time.

1. Use you will and half hour to build something.
2. Have the troll begin shooting your build with a weapon repeatedly, causing the server to lag.
3. The badmin should notice this, and look for a causer of the lag. The troll will claim innocence, and blame it on your build for the lag.
4. The badmin should now destroy your two hour's build, at which point the troll will put the weapon away, causing the explosions to stop.
5. Finally, the badmin will ban you for "causing weapon spam", and you have succesfully been framed.

What, you think I'm typing this from a recent EXPERIENCE? NO! How would you ever guess?

Have you ever been blamed or framed for something on Blockland? I swear it was like a Blockland version of Sweeney Todd. In a few days, I'll come back with a vengeance and a different ID and start slitting the throats of all the trolls out there.

Help / Ping is always at ---

And last time I checked, that's not a very high number.

Anyways, my servers suddenly aren't working. Someone explained to me that this was why no one was joining, was because it showed up as --- Ping, and multiple people have told me the same thing. I haven't done anything with my internet connection, it just suddenly started doing this. Naturally, I have no idea what's behind this. Does anyone know what might have caused this? It's like Badspot changed his mind about people not having to forward ports, because this is exactly what happened then as well...

So someone asks me to come to his server. It's password protected. He told me the password, and I got there, and asked him "If you want people to come to your server so bad, why make it password protected?" He replies, "I don't want freak noob weirdoes to join". I asked him what he meant by that. After a lot of avoiding the subject, he finally said "You know..... he was a guy.... who liked other guys...."

SO YOU'RE HOMOPHOBIC? Seriously. This just generated hate with me on so many levels for so many reasons. 1, homophobic people piss me off. 2, he was thinking he was defending himself by making it password protected. 3, he was going to bug OTHER people to come to his server, to meet the needs of his fear! 4, he couldn't accept the fact that homoloveuals are a part of life, and that he was GOING to come in contact with some over the internet. 5, HE WAS SCARED OF THE WORD HOMOloveUAL.

Srsly now. Most of the time, when I meet a homophobic christian, they're all "OMG! Death to the homos! God hatez u!!!", but cowering in fear and avoiding them? Yeah. They're really gonna back down now.

I won't share his name for him to be flamed, because he's not a bad guy at heart, but this just PISSED ME OFF. I can expect there to be a large amount of family men on Blockland automatically, but this is just a level that I did NOT see coming. It was literally a fear of homoloveuals.

Help / Minigames not Working

I downloaded the default minigame mod and the team DM mod, but it doesn't seem to be working. I go into the edit menu for the minigames, but nothing shows up for either of them. I also notice something weird, that the "Favorites" tab seems to be overlapping with the title of the window.

The weirdest thing of all is that no one has joined my server in days. I've been working on a DM for the past week, every day. I started it up today, and waited. Nothing. I know I probably sound like a whiny impatient person, but this is NOT a coincidence, that just no one feels like coming. It's a DM. I know for a FACT that people flock to DMs, and the fact that no one has communicated with me on IRC or done anything just seems weird to me. I'm going to see if I can ask someone to try and join my server, just to see if it's possible. But is there any hypothesis on what might be happening here? >_>;

General Discussion / Was it worth the $20?

About 2 years ago was when I bought Blockland, and needless to say, I think it was a $20 well spent. I've used it a lot in the years I've been here, and I feel like I've done a lot with it, so I'm glad I bought Blockland, personally. My friends however, I got two people to buy Blockland because they heard about it from me. One of them can't use it anymore (Which translates into "I'm bored with it") and the other one was driven away by the community. Both of them have told me that they think it was a wasted $20.

So how about you? If you've bought Blockland, do you think it was worth it? If you haven't bought it, do you think it would be worth it?
