Well I was thinking of upgrading my card later this year... and since ATI is generally cheaper, which should I get?

When people say they want it to run games, they mean they want to run games. That doesn't mean they won't do other intensive tasks. I'm sure gaming isn't the only thing he does.

Well its not just about his budget, its about what he does and what kinds of games he runs. Quad core would be great for multitasking, but not really much of an advantage for gaming, but there's quite a bit of money between dual and quad.
