i went really far on slate apocalypse then i was in water!, i dont know how or why

Not a glitch. It's just a fluke with all slate maps.

I never understood why they weren't just textured...

The slate ground (which is actually just an enormous cube) is invisible.

Couldn't it just be terrain instead of having water that looks like terrain?
