Author Topic: "LAG" shouldn't be showing... or should it?  (Read 723 times)

When I play on my desktop pc, there is no lag. When I play on my laptop pc, there is LAG constantly.

Specs:

LapTop- 1.6 ghz single core AMD, 3gb RAM, ATI Graphics

DeskTop- 1.6 ghz dual core Intel, 1gb RAM, i forget what graphics card... (Quick question.. if its dual 1.6, does that mean its 3.2 overall?)

the laptop has 3x ram and a better graphics card. why is this happening?
sorry for double post, "modify"/"edit" didnt show up

(Quick question.. if its dual 1.6, does that mean its 3.2 overall?)
Roughly, although it never works out exactly.

Try updating your drivers on the laptop.
If you are on wireless, try plugging an ethernet cable in (just temporarily to see if it is the problem).
Try running a fresh install.

I'll try the ethernet later, cause im comfortably in bed right now under blankets lol. How do I update my drivers? Btw, i just upgraded to DirectX 11, still LAG.

Also, im running windows 7 on my laptop and Vista on my desktop

Generally a Windows Update should pull most drivers up to a reasonably up to date version, however the better idea is to go to the manufacturers website (AMD, Intel, Nvidia, ATI) and manually download the correct download for your system.

Ive done that already, any other ideas?

Is it on your server or someone else's server that you're experiencing this?

There's your problem.
That is plenty; I can run Blockland on my Netbook which has 1GB ram and also on my old computer which had 512MB.

Press Windows Key + R.
Type in 'dxdiag'.
Read what video card you have from the Display tab. If you can't figure it out, post the contents of the Display tab here. Do this for both your computers.

But why is there lag if everything in the laptop is better than the desktop?

You obviously are new to computers. The graphics card is the main component that renders 3d elements for gaming etc. Simply stating 'ATi card' is not good enough. It could be anything from your grandmothers ATi Rage 128 to an ATi Radeon 5970 which is more powerful than anything on the market at this moment.

On both computers so I can tell which has the best graphics card.
