Author Topic: Making A Wasteland Game In Blockland. Need Suggestions.  (Read 939 times)

Alright, so I downloaded a wasteland map sometime around noon today, and that utterly inspired me. I have never put this much work into a project before. Soon enough my friend joined in. Here's what we have now.

You spawn, and the first thing you see is a pub with a vending machine inside. The average player will walk into the pub, and go to the back where there is purified water that restores your health, and a terminal. The player reads the terminal which informs them to open the safe, they do and find a double barrel shotgun, a good starting weapon. Smarter players will activate the vending machine, using it from the front will tell the player that it doesn't work, but fidgeting with the gray block on the back nets the player a browing HP pistol. Another starting weapon. A smarter player will also survey the surroundings using zoom, and find "Ol' Joes Hunting Shack" and the Dock. Ol' Joes Hunting Shack has 4 guns, Ak47, a carbine, Desert eagle, and the "Bang" Novelty gun. The player can also go to the dock, and find a block with a "?" symbol on it, upon pressing it , it reads "You can go to Jolly Pirates Toilets and take a 2 hour stuff for all I care" There is also a window. Upon looking out the window, the player notices a flag for Jolly Pirates. If the player travels to the flag, they will find Jolly Pirates, a Chuck E Cheese style place before the apocalypse. The Average player will loot the prize shelf for the pirate weapons, but the advanced player will enter the bathroom, and activate the Toilet, netting them the Shockwave from District 9. The first offical quest starts when the player finds a small out of place table in the middle of a small pond, notes on the table reveal a bunker to the south, which contains a key to a bar, which contains info on part 2 of the quest, and a shotgun and pistol from the engie of tf2. This is as far as I've build today, and I'd like suggestions and constructive criticism.

On a second note, Heres some things I want to add.

Enemies
Bigger inventories for the player
Vehicles that can be respawned but not when someone is already riding them
Players keeping stuff after they die/corpse looting
And an overlay of rpg elements so that the player can't jet and build and what not

Any suggestions for that?

It seems like all it is is a quest for better weapons, and being the smarter player is a cool idea but anyone can just click randomly and get the stuff instead of listening to subtle hints.

you need to use tier+tactical, modify all the guns very slightly, create duplicates, etc: colorshift them all slightly differently: that way nobody has a hugeass advantage over another

oh and get rid of the deagle, that thing sucks ass

anyways, enemies = bots, vehicle problem solved by 'retreive' instead of 'respawn', and you'll need an actual mod for the last two

Playtested this morning and found a few problems.

IE: Zombies Only start working after being attacked, and will only work if I use Player Survivor, which works pretty well.

Some items are not part of my minigame even after I enable player use own bricks and include playerbricks.

I could use some more sophisticated bots, maybe some that can use weapons. Any ideas?

This Script means that the player can only plant bricks he/she has has picked up.
(picking up bricks is done through events.)

Still in development, I played this morning and added several major changes, some of which edited what I just told you.
