I'm pretty sure the only reason it can be done with this is because of the way they were made. If you've ever seen them, you'll notice that you can go through the top part of the spike, so that it'll give you the impression that you're actually being impaled. So basically, even though the brick appears to be that long, that part of the brick isn't actually there. But yeah, if other bricks work like this, I assume they would work the same way.

Oh, and nice on-screen info. Looks like a scientist making notes...

There's a spike brick add on, and just recently a ceiling spike brick was added in. I just so happened to notice that the two tops can overlap, without the "Overlap" error that usually shows up.
