Author Topic: Could someone give me a program?  (Read 791 times)

So after a few months of hard thinking I have decided to work on some modeling for Blockland or just other stuff. I'm new at this but I have had some experience with Sketch up. I just need a easy program for newbies or a one that is free but can be learned over time.

Sketchup is great if you're new at modelling, but Milkshape is the most recommended for novice modellers.
I perfer Blender myself, but that's just my opinion.

Ok but is there anyway to port Sketchup files to Blockland?

Not easily and it will probably get screwed up in the process anyway so I would go with Blender personally, but Milkshape and Shaper allow for DTS exporting as well. Any of the 3 will work.

You could technically use SketchUp, but it will take longer and you will either have to hope to God that your model doesn't get messed up, or learn to use Blender/Milkshape/Shaper anyway in order to fix your models.

Blender is free
Milkshape costs $20 - $30 (Somewhere around there, but there is a free 30-day trial)
Shaper costs money (don't know how much, check website, and there is a trial for this one as well)

As I said before, I would go with Blender, but you have to download and install the dts exporter plug-in as well as Python in order for Blender to work/export properly.

Edit:
There is another modeling program that I think can export DTS models, can't remember the name but I don't think you would want the program anyway, it costs around $1,200 (I can only remember that it is very expensive, considering that you're not professionally modeling for an actual game); It's for Pros

Thanks for the info Milk. By the way I heard that the exporter for Blender costs money.

Blender DTS exporter coming right up!

Just get Sketchup Pro and free and download them into separate folders and use the free one to model and then export it to 3DS through SU Pro. You can then import the 3DS to Blender and add your joints and things like that, then export it using the DTS exporter I linked to at the top. Hope that helped.

I've used both Milkshape and Blender, and I prefer Blender, simply because there's so much more you can do with it.

Thanks for the help! I've downloaded Blender and the exporter. Now I just need to look up tutorials on youtube :/
