Author Topic: GTX 470 vs. HD5850  (Read 1031 times)

Just wondering what is better. I have a 5850 right now and I love it but this card is for a computer I intend to build for my brother. The 470 has about a $30 higher price but it does come with two free games. The 5850 uses less power and runs cooler buy sacrifices a tad bit of performance.

I don't want to deal with the fanboy bullstuff.

how about you get off your ass and look up the benchmarks yourself

I did. I stated pretty clearly that the 470 was a bit better.

Derp, then buy it.

I was just wondering if it was worth $30 more, a much higher operating temp. and more power consumption.

$30 is nothing.
Get a better cooling case and actually use A/C like the rich American you are.
It'll have less power consumption than a 5850 I think.

The dual fan design is attractive and my case is not a problem. I hope to overclock this too.

Reviews look sketchy.
If you want to overclock a video card it won't be easy. EVGA does this the easiest by far.

Buy EVGA.  They're great.

Truth. If you aren't happy you have 90 days I think once you register your card to pay a very small amount of money to upgrade in the form of step up. So if I bought a $200 GTX460 and wanted a GTX470 I'd only pay $100 for the 470.

hmmmm...

I don't like the idea of buying an after-market cooler for a video card. I do love evga though. I will consider that...

Maybe not evga. They seem to be about another $50. I do think that I may however go with the MSI. I love MSI.

The MSI did end up getting really great reviews.

I'm most likely going to get that as well.
