response to A.R.C's post that had a dodo which was probably just a joke but whatever:
Often a species goes extinct when their successors develop the genes to survive the environmental difficulties of their predecessors.
The Dodo was driven to extinction due to man.
However, it should be noted that several species of bacteria are becoming extremely resistant to modern medicine due to man's wiping out of the incompetent non-mutated strains, leaving the bacteria with immunity to the medicine being administered to prosper while nothing is done to stop it.
