Author Topic: Should I make a scripting tutorial?  (Read 991 times)

I know enough about scripting to make a tutorial on how to script some basic weapons, but Im not sure if its a good idea to make a tutorial, as there would probably be noobs who start to stuff out add-ons?

Id just like to get and idea of what everyone else thinks.

I say yes.
For every ten idiots you show how to make rubbish, you teach one how to become a brilliant scripter.

There are already lots of good ones. You'd just be wasting your time remaking them.

Yes, but all of those dont tell you how to make add ons, they just teach you the basics of tourque. Mine would go straight into making add-ons, the same way I learned.

Gah, Ill make one anyway.

When you read the .cs files is not too hard to script at all, but this tuto will be usefull for beginners

There was/is a tutorial allready, but where was it again...

Im trying to learn scripting for this game. And i haven't found anything that really bases off Add Ons. This would be helpful to me. It would be awesome if you made it :D

Many of us tried to make scripting tutorials.
They all got bombarded with stuffty questions.

What I do is look at the syntax, look at some addons, try to modify, bit by bit, and then test.
So far, things have been working out....nevermind.
One thing is that I REFUSE to let my first addon or pack of addons look and feel crappy.

Maybe he could review those posts.. And put in the questions that people are asking. Istead of it be a one time project. Work on it over time to answer the needs of the questions to the best of his ability

I don't want millions of people making add-ons.

They're somewhat difficult to make to prevent idiots from spamming horrific add-ons. We have enough tutorials on here for any semi-intelligent person to learn.

I must agree partially with Cyanian here.

Everyone who really wants to learn to script has made it fine without a general tutorial.
If you make scripting easier, there will be much more scripters, but i don't know what consequence it will have for the quality of the scripts.

In fact, i would like it more if someone like Space Guy or some real good scripter would make such a tutorial as you are still a beginner as far as i know.
But there won't be a tutorial from those people.

I don't know if this is a good idea.

Saying that is like saying you dont want people learning or making new ideas.

A scripting tutorial is nice, but even what I said;

Because people dont go review posts or look closely at posts neither.
