Author Topic: Stolen LTWTDM: sgt.Reobock has taken my build.  (Read 1877 times)

Code: [Select]
Xalos 11239 sgt.Reobock 21434 Do not steal my builds. Stealing a build is defined as taking it without asking and giving no credit to the author. -1 -1I was browsing the server list, because my server's ability to show up on the master list has gone to zero since the v18 update. (Yes, I updated it.)

I notice one server: "sgt.Reobock's Trench Wars"
I realize that this person came to my server not that long ago. I decide to join, and I'm INSTANTLY suspicious when he says "i made it" "maybe"
I spawn. I don't need to ghost for 2 seconds before I recognize the skybox, lava, and ground of my own lava trench warfare team deathmatch server's map.

I then say "How, just how did I guess?" and three seconds later get an invalid fxSomethingOrOther. I rejoin, and about five seconds later, the server shuts down.

The welcome message of the server is "Hello, %1!"
I don't know if there's some hidden mention of "Xalos made this build" in "Hello, Xalos!" but I certainly can't find it.

I wouldn't have been suspicious if he hadn't acted so shifty -- until I spawned.
In fact the first thing I say is "That's new." "Downloading File Manifest" which is, of course, something you should invariably expect someone to reply to with "i made it" "maybe" because only Badspot made it.

Oops, page stretch. If I had known that was going to happen, I would have replaced the tabs with spaces. Odd, it didn't look like that in preview.

Hmm, not worth making a new topic over, but then again, this is a triple post now. Oh well, I guess board spam is worse than thread spam.

Arguing with a stubborn idiot: Don't bother.

If you don't want your build stolen, don't host a server.

I disagree, you can spam a thread all you want and people don't have to look at it if they don't feel like it.

Ya guys, let's all never host again.

You might want to check the ordering, there.

Badspot has posted his opinion on build stealing over and over again. By not sharing builds, you are depriving the game of on of the essential features.

Stop acting like 3-year-olds and trying to hoard things you have an infinite supply of. People who try and hold onto their builds are pathetic, "Oh no! They didn't say it was made by me! I'm going to lose my e-rep!" or, "Let's make it all about me, you guys can only have fun with my build when I'm on."

Public saving is currently the only means of keeping quality builds alive after their authors have gone.  Undermining that would seriously damage the game.

Best thing to do is to hide your name somewhere, and show it to them when they say they made it.

Don't be that kind of person, it's just dumb.
It's not like you have a copyright or something.

Dedicated server.

The truly amusing part, in any case, was that he had none of the scripts that were vital to the well-being, such as the forcePlace script. I noticed that when I leave, the spawns stopped working, so I ditched the spawns and forcibly shoved the players to the right place.
