I don't see the problem with a tutorial style topic, teaching how to do certain small designs, such as doorways, windows, decorations, etc...
I think most experienced builders will agree that once you gain confidence with your building ability, things start to flow naturally and you come up with ideas on the spot and you re-use designs you've used before.
However, for the newer builders or those without much confidence in their style and ability, this idea is perfect.
It gives people the chance to gain inspiration from other peoples work, which I would promote to anyone who is stuck, it allows people to finish their builds if they're stuck on a small part with no idea how to follow it up and it also means that the small little details and things that people build are also shown in the Gallery.
If the topic was slightly more encyclopediatic, then that would be brilliant, but of course, you can't organize a topic until people start posting their ideas. At that point, I suggest that OP starts to link to individual posts in an alphabetical listing on the Original Post.
Also, just because you say that other people will be using the same things, doesn't mean it isn't a good idea.
No one will post a tutorial or image on how to build an entire house or a castle or whatever. Just the small sections that others have provided, that may not be the major point of the build, but will be extra detail that is still crucial.
You will also find that, anyone who posts a topic with something that has been taken from here, will have a whole other build with it. So what if they've gotten inspiration from or used a window or a tree from here?
They're minor details that work well and just keep their build real.
Look beyond the little bit of help that they've recieved from this topic and have used to work and see what they've done alongside it and with it.
This topic is a perfect, General Blockland-related information topic. Why shouldn't we have ideas and tips towards building?
Any help for a newer or inexperienced builder is better, especially if it saves them going from server to server just looking at peoples builds, which I'm sure can seem a bit rude for someone looking for inspiration and ideas.
Anyway, I'll try to add a couple of things to this topic, but I'll have to think about what I'm going to post.
Most of my builds are either designed to a specific genre and the details to those also fit them. But, I'm sure I'll pull something generic of mine out.
