Author Topic: My computer thinks it has 2 monitors (it only has 1)  (Read 433 times)

My comp thinks 2 monitors are plugged in, even though only 1 is. How can I make it stop being confused.

As to why this is a problem, about every other time that I start it up from a sleep it thinks it's the other monitor. I can drag windows across to it but it doesn't have a task bar.

If I can't make it recognize the lack of a second monitor, how can I switch between the two of them without switching the monitor off and on?

Right click your desktop > Properties > Settings

You should be able to figure it out from there.

That's for changing resolutions and other settings.

Go into the bios settings, and set the primary display device to auto/offboard.

If you're on Windows 7, right click desktop, press Screen resolution then set it to show the same thing on screens 1 and 2.

The way I stated worked when I had this problem.
I apparently was using the onboard chipset and an offboard video card.
Reformatting can help in some cases, too.

Try both of them.
It depends on the OS. What OS are you running, Captain?

It's hinting it wants another monitor

Oh my god stop just blatantly trying to ramp your post count.
