Author Topic: How do I use a Wings 3D model for Torque Engine?  (Read 1223 times)

I made a few models and want to use them for a gun in Blockland. (well duh, what else?)

The models are Wings 3D files, but I need a program that can convert them to the appropiate file type.  What do I use?

Export to Blender, then import, and export to .dts.

How do I export it to Blender?

Find something that Wings exports, like 3ds or obj.

Alright, Wings 3D can export and import both .3ds files, and .obj files.

How do I change my .wings file to a .3ds file?  How can I open a .3ds file in blender?

Edit: I want to keep everything free; I don't want to blow a bunch of money on some program for this.  Only free ones, please!

You are going to need to Export as .obj in wings. Then, go here to download the Blender .obj importer. Make sure that you have Blender and Python for it to work. Then, download the Torque Exporter.

This website has information on blender import/export:

http://www.blender.org/download/python-scripts/import-export/

Does anyone have info on how to export a .wings file to .obj?  As you can see, I'm a bit new to this stuff.

I am just guessing here, but click "File". Then go down to "Export" and then choose *.obj.
