Author Topic: finding default system password for a router?  (Read 706 times)

EDIT: Found it. Was in small black text at bottom of router. Room was very dark, needed flashlight.

first thing mom said (not exagerating): IF SOMEBODY GETS INTO OUR NETWORK AND STEALS MY BANK INFO I'M TAKING AWAY YOUR INTERNET

not sure where to post this. oh well.

anyways the story is I have a 2wire 3800HGV-B router. There is supposed to be a sticker on the router with system password, MAC address, and wireless network key. there is no sticker containing this information on the router. how would I go about finding the default router password? I'm prepared to call my ISP if there isn't any other option.

also, my mom knows stuff all about computers and she thinks port forwarding (what else would I need this for?) will LOL HAX OUR INTERNETS so asking her isn't an option (but when I did ask her where the password was .. apparently the fellow who set it up didn't bother telling her or writing it down. great way to treat your customers. starfish.)

tl;dr read the bold

and no it's not "password" or "admin"

forget sorry. Anyways your router should have a reset button on it. I think you'll need to use the tip of a pen or something. Just hit that and it should clear any passwords.

now if only it wasn't so damn dark where it's located..

well I searched the thing for a while and there's no (read: no easily visible) reset button, however there is a gigantic power button and wireless button.

brb searching for reset button, pressing button, getting yelled at because OGM U BROKE INTETRSTNZ

Yeah, if its not admin for username and admin for password, just reset it. Otherwise your screwed. :U

too lazy to get off bed. gah

ok well, there's a "reset to factory settings" option in the router's page .. guess what password it needs? >:C

I'll search for a reset button when my mom leaves.

(would uPnP work without needing a password? I don't want to resort to this because I'm capable of port forwarding, all I need is the password)
