Author Topic: Hosting Problems  (Read 639 times)

I'm having minor problems with hosting, the chief of which is whenever someone joins the server, I'm getting a HUGE lagspike, which more often then not the person is disconnecting afterwards. I'm running only add-ons required for running the server, however I do have a large library of add-ons on this machine (I'm a major old-timer add-on wise). Is anyone else having this problem, and how would I try to fix it?

When it lags does it eventually stop?

Yes, about 30 seconds later, and it's kinda odd. It happens like once or twice one host session, and every join another.

Windows XP

It's the file manifest. The more add-ons you have the more it lags.

This happens to me everytime a player joins my server. I don't think there is a solution to it...

Beyond  the odvious 'put more add-ons off/in storage if you're not using em?' I have a secondary add-ons folder exclusively for dis reason

Try re-installing, And remove all the client/server/system add-ons those should fix the problem.

Most of this is true except right here:

This happens to me everytime a player joins my server.
No it does not, When a player FIRST joins your server then it gives a 30second-5min[depending on your add-ons Enabled] lag before it regens the manifest file: take note that when you change the map it does the same thing thats because its regenerating the file manifest. Its the new download system Badspot added. If you have any problems don't blame me badspot. Also like i said it only happens to the First player to join your server or when your changing the map.

It happens to me too, but only to the first person to join.

Guys seriously? It's when someone joins, the server compiles a list of all the add-ons you have enabled, the manifest. Then the clients computer compares that manifest with a list of it's own add-ons. Whichever add-ons are on the manifest that are not on the client's computer the game downloads.

...The more add-ons you have the more it lags....

Not the add-ons he has. The add-ons he has enabled.

This probably wouldn't do anything. It's going to lag no matter what types of add-ons he has.

I just said that.

But thanks for backing me up.
