Author Topic: Need to build a new computer (BUDGET)  (Read 1303 times)

An x3 is either an x4 with a locked core or its an x4 with a faulty fourth core that is locked out for a reason (doesn't work properly, w/e).

I may be wrong, but that's what I would think.

You definitely do NOT need a kilowatt for that.  You don't even have a hard drive either.  A 9800GT won't be able to run BFBC2 high.

CPU You get a x3 because it is $20 cheaper than a x4 but it actually is a x4 you just unlock the 4th core in the bios
GPU 5770 is still the best bang for the buck.
PSU Cheapest PSU you can get, from a reputable company, and has enough power for this build.
Mobo Best one for that price range, if you want to splurge I'd get a higher price gigabyte
RAM OMG SLOW SPEED RAMS, speed of RAM has never meant anything and it's just a ruse to get you to pay more for a product that hasn't been changed in many years (besides single channel/dual channel/triple channel)
Case A case is just a case, I keep the side off of mine and it is 10x cooler than a super expensive case with 5 fans.

Whoops I put the GPU as the PSU and made it 2 GPUs, this comp actually comes out to under $400. You would need to spend $109 on windows 7 if you wanted that, bringing it to about $500. Also forgot the hard-drive :/ just pick one.

RAM speed does matter.  The bare minimum should be 1066 MHz at least.

way under your budget, so you have some room for upgrades.

Do you still have your old computer case?
I'll have to check, my dad might have thrown it away.

I don't really want to build since I'm not really experienced with computers.
Heres something better than building one...
Buy a normal one put together by some 3rd world Indian/African/Asian who gets payed 50p. Simple loving as.
When I bought something from dealextreme (headphones from China) they broke within a week.

If I end up building I'll think about it.

Could someone check this for me, most of this stuff I don't understand O.o

The lighting makes your computer light up, obviously.  The case...do what you want. AMD processors have slightly less power than Intel, but are the only thing you can get for a 600 dollar budget. Cooling, I would suggest this upgrade: AMD cpu's seem to have cooling problems with stock fans. I do not know if the games you play need 2 or 4 cores, but I would go with the cheap quad AMD

The only RAM you can get is 4 GB with your budget, if you get the other upgrades im recommending. Video card...well...for a good one, your gonna have to bust the budget and get a 500 W PSU, unless you want to take a risk and go cheaper with a dual core processor. I can not help you with the HDs or motherboards.

Alright quick bump.
I'm leaning more towards Visage's since it's cheaper. But I'll have to see if my dad wants to help me build or just get a prebuilt.
Just one more question to make sure, it can run all of the games I mentioned right?

Then why doesn't computers use 30-pin 150ns SIMM memory like in the 80's? Because it's slow. The higher RAM speed, the faster the RAM can be written/read. Of course, this depends on other factors, but generally higher clock speeds = faster.

I'll probably be getting 4gbs of RAM.
