it's because they don't understand your reaction. if most people can't understand you they become scared and enraged.
The mental state of most of the kids in school now-adays is set to believe everything they want to be normal,
is normal and if it's not. They proclaim it to be avoided at all costs. So therefor if you just stare someone in the eye, or laugh maniacly, or anything "out of the ordinary" they will proclaim you to be ab-normal, and either A. Pick on you more, for being ab-normal. Or B. Decide you must be some crazy lunatic, and avoid you.
My school has gone with the latter of the two
