Hard Drive questions

I am getting a new HDD today, and it is 1 TB. I have a second HDD cart on my computer case. I have a few questions, though.

1. Will I need to format the 1 TB drive even though it is only for storing things such as steam, etc. and my 200 GB boot drive used only for that?

2. Is my HDD sata? It has 4 or 5 cables connecting into one port that plugs into the Hard Drive (The one that looks like SATA cables). On my Device manager it says ATA, but more specifically, "ST3250820AS ATA device".

3. If I do plug in the 1TB drive, how would I use it? Would I save it to stuff just like I do a flash drive?

ALso, forgot to add, it is ~3-4 years old, so would it support SATA drives?
