When you make a pokemon avatar or whatever do you leave out the terrible text? Or do you color it if it's based on the black and white ones?

I don't make pokemon avatars. Infact, I don't make avatars at all. Usernames are there for a reason.

Its not meant to be mindblowingly lovey, its purposefully and intentionally made to resemble the Zelda game everyone's talking about, and seeing as how it was made for the Gameboy, it wasn't mindblowing graphics wise. Its goal isn't to look good, its made to be recognizable by the people who play Zelda.
