I noticed this after I tried to download some faces for blockland and oddly they didn't seem to show up. Could there be a limit to how many you can have?

Usually you're only born with one, but there have been some rare cases.

I'm pretty sure there is no limit.
Probably packaged incorrectly or you broke it.
