Author Topic: Smoothing Groups  (Read 1269 times)

I'm sorta new to modeling but I would like to know how to make parts of my model have similar shading. Right now the model is sorta roundish and looks stuffty flatshaded. MS3D by the way.

In the group tab, there will be a lot of numbers. Above it, it will say Select and Assign, which is under something that says 'Smoothing Groups'

Click assign, then select the part you want to be similar, and click one of the 32 numbers.

Boom, smoothing groups.

Didn't work.

Didn't work.
Make sure you are in Textured view mode, and that you don't flatshade it afterwards.

The only reason it wouldn't work would be if you were using v1.8.4.

Also, make sure that Auto Smooth is checked.

Not for Milkshape but might help you anyways.

I'm using version 1.8.4
-_-

Use the latest one.
I don't trust the new version because it's in Beta. But I'll download it anyways.

The only thing is that some of the imports/exports might not work.

Also, they stopped working on Milkshape, I think

I got it installed but it still isn't working. When you tell me to select the part of my model do I select it from the model tab or group tab or select a group?

Select the faces with the face selection tool.

I use 1.8.5 BETA 1, it works fine.

To select a whole mesh piece, go into the Groups tab and double click/use Select button on the mesh's name. OR
go into Model tab. The top part which has Select/Move/Rotate/Scale, click on Select. Go down to the Select Options part, and choose Group.
Eitherway, it does the same thing.

To select individual faces/vertices, do the OR piece from above ^. Choose either Vertex/Face instead of Group.
