Author Topic: Seventh has installed Windows 7 on his new computer, but has a few questions  (Read 1757 times)

1. Under device manager, it shows my display adapter as, "Standard VGA graphics adapter" instead of the name of my videocard. Why is this? I haven't installed the video drivers quite yet, and I'm sure I plugged the DVI cable into my video card.

2. If I'm prompted to install a network adapter driver, that indicates I need to install a wifi card, correct? I haven't done so yet, and I delayed it just to check if my motherboard came with a network adapter. It didn't lol.

Also, anyone have any suggested software I should get? Themes maybe? ;)

windows xp
you should actually help
seventh, i don't know the answers for sure but you should install the video drivers

I pretty much love the gadgets on my windows 7.

1. you need to install drivers for your video card, right now its using a basic video driver.
2. actually thats probably for your ethernet port(s). you should install the drivers for your motherboard too.

also, if you're still having problems with your DVD drive, go to one of your Macs and download the latest drivers for your videocard and motherboard, plus whatever else. then put them all on a USB drive and get them to your new computer that way. (assuming you dont have internet yet)

ive had to do that before.

I installed a wifi card and I'm hauling it back.

what's the worst that could happen?

well forget, it appears my wifi card is dead/not properly seated in PCI slot.

now I get to unplug everything from my computer again, haul the bitch ass mofo into a room without carpet, and push it in harder.

agh, you'd think most motherboards come with wifi cards built in by now.

anyone have an easy solution?

reseated it.

everything works now.

I take that back.

My wifi card has a green light on it which indicates it's working, however I can't detect any wireless networks on my computer and it can't find a driver for it.

maybe my wifi card came with a cd.

yeah it should have a CD
if not download them on another computer and move via USB/burn to CD

the CD fixed everything. things are going well.

internet is running at 100% of ethernet speed, so yeah great wifi card for me.

Other then video card driver, what else should I download? I think I'll do mobo drivers after.

can't do either lol because windows is out of date.

updating everything is taking awhile lol.

I've been too used to my, "On a mac, no updates loving ever" mindset.

Just wait for it. It does take a while and it is a nuisance, but it's worth it for the extra stuff you get :D
