This is true but he claims he didn't touch the sticker. He takes very good care of his stuff. Plus he bought it new.
But it's his word against yours and since I haven't actually seen anything I guess both of you could be right.
I don't believe that as I've never heard someone buying an xbox and the sticker already being tampered with.
If not him (which probably is, I mean come on, who else would touch it?) someone must have done something to it and if he doesn't know who touches his electronics lol, that's his fault once again.
How an Xbox would be fried via lightning strike in the first place is just beyond me.

Here's my solution: Don't get an XBOX, they're notorious for breaking and don't have as good console-exclusive games as the PS3.
