Author Topic: Agricultural Science or Foreign Languages?  (Read 503 times)

I am currently eligible to enter two magnet schools next year. One school, which isn't too far from where I live, is an agricultural/life science oriented school, which operates a farm worked by the students (with cows, corn, pigs, and other stuff), and has more of a hands on perspective to learn, and as a geneticist or a microbiologist are my choices of my ideal careers, this is a field I would like to study. Another school, which is a half hour's train ride away, is a more language oriented school, where you study either Chinese, Arabic, or Japanese, and then you go to a country that speaks your chosen language for two weeks. You also learn more about world history and world literature. This school would help me more for finance/corporate work abroad. I can't really make a decision on which school to go to. What should I base my ultimate decision on, my personal interests or a more hands on learning environment, where both choices could help me land jobs I want?

Launage arts would help you in any job because it helps you work with customers
but if you like being a agriculturist then go for it.

go to the language one. fosho.

Foreign Language.
Law School.
F***ing rich ambassador.

But seriously, if you learn Chinese or Arabic, rich corporations will really want you to apply to a well-paying job there.

Added to the "if you come near me, you won't live to tell the tale" list.

oh, well seeing as i live in a different country and you couldn't even fire a gun straight without contacts or glasses....

i dont seem to find any problems there.

plus the fact that you probably don't even own a gun, because you would know that you are a minor and it would be licensed to your guardians.

what did they have to say about this? didn't the cops ask to see you parents?

If you live in another country, you have no reason to come anywhere near me.

If you like doing agricultural work, do it.
It isn't work if you enjoy it. Well, not for a period of time at least.

Also I can go near rockslide without getting shot.  :cookie:

well foreign language is good on resume's
and it avoids foreigners looking at you like you're a babbling moron.

but with agriculture class, you get to learn a lot more stuff.
-starting businesses in agriculture
-how to take care of livestock
-how to manage beef cattle (cows, their breeds)
-how to manage pork cattle (pigs, their breeds)
-some breeding tips
-how to castrate (removing the testicles in very painful sounding ways) males who are unfit for calfing or are beef/pork cattle (its not pretty)
-you are automatically signed up for organizations like FFA and 4-H, who have frequent field trips and events in agriculture. (sadly though, FFA is seriously underbudget.)
-most likely, if your school has a metals shop, you will also be doing some welding and metal working

if you want to take a shot at foreign language, go ahead.
but if you want to take a shot at agriculture, i suggest Ag class
