Author Topic: Friend is building computer, needs help.  (Read 559 times)

My friend is having an issue building a computer, he has a lot of stuff from his old computer he plans on using, so he has almost everything, he also knows what he wants.

However the problem that he is having is that his current power supply is 650 watts and the graphics card he has needs 550, his current power supply is 38 amps and the card needs 38 amps.  Is this ok to use or should he upgrade his power supply.

I'd upgrade to be safe.  You'd risk loving stuff up just by hitting the limit.

More is always safe, less is most definitely dangerous.

Not sure how many but I know this is his power supply.

Why is he even building a computer?

He already has a bunch of parts from his old computer and he really just needs to upgrade a few things.

One being the graphics card and maybe the power supply.

If you think he doesn't know some of this stuff, he gave me the information on his power supply and asked me, I didn't know so I figured I'd ask here and tell him.

It's the best way of getting a computer.

On topic: It looks like there is only one 12v rail. He should be fine with this PSU.

Thanks for your input everyone!

He says that if there is a deal on a better power supply he will buy it but otherwise he is going to use the one he has.
