Okay so first of all: This post will probably make me sound like a real richard but it's not what it seems. I still think charity is a great thing and I still donate to it like a good man would. I just feel I need to say this or it will come out badly in public.
Onto the story: Today we had a 'talk', an assembly of some sort. For this we miss PE again (which isn't THAT bad 'cause we are doing gymnastics right now but I'd still rather being doing it than sitting in a warm gym hall). The talk was about a charity that helps kids with disabilities. Some women came in and talked to us about them. About what they do and how it helps. About how we were all wanted to go on a sponsored walk for it. Now this is all good and well but this went on for about FIFTY MINUTES. Five or ten of those minutes we watched a dvd about all the kids and what they had to say. What I really think is HORRIBLE is that they take pictures of all the kids and put it on the wall, the ones who pass away they put a butterfly/dragonfly on their photo. Let's just think about that for a second, they are putting dead children's photos on the wall. I just think that A. That must be horrible for the parents and B. I think it's very sad. While they were all talking there was also this consistent buzzing noise coming from the speakers which nobody bothered to try and fix. The seats were also very uncomfortable.
Basically I had to sit through a boring uncomfortable talk about charity which I'm pretty sure NOBODY enjoyed. It makes a more negative impression than it makes a positive one. This isn't what charity should be about! It is supposed to be about giving and happiness. Not giving an excuse to make all of us bored to death. I know for a fact everyone would have gone on the walk and donated if they had just given out a letter. Partly because it's for charity and partly because it's probably going to be fun. It would have saved so much time and happiness. I don't think that schools and representatives understand that nobody wants to sit through a boring talk that doesn't help AT ALL.
So now I'm going on a long walk on November the 30th and hoping to get at least £20 for the charity. Maybe £30 if I'm lucky. Why couldn't they have just sent out a note explaining it? Why?
Discuss long, boring and useless talks.
