Questions about phones.

So, I wanted to get a Android Phone. I wasn't going to get it on a contract, as I'm 12 and I don't really see a need for a actual phone yet. I was going to get it for things like apps and what not, so I was going to buy a unlocked android phone somewhere.
1. What phone do you recommend? A few of my friends have iPods and there are apps to text. Is there the same for Android?

2. Is there a touchscreen phone, that when you put it horizontally, that you can use a keyboard?

If you want a nice big screen, I would reccomend the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10a. I currently have it and I like it. You could also get the Xperia Play, it has a slide-out game controller.

almost every touchscreen phone has an accelerometer that does that
I think some really new ones have gyroscopes too
