Author Topic: How to force an application to use a certain amount of ram?  (Read 3384 times)

Yes, what i want to do is get an application(a game) to use more ram lets say 2-3gb atm it uses less then 1gb i dont care if it wont do a difference or make it run faster i just want it to do it then i can apply the settings to other applications, would i need to hex edit?

I don't understand computers.

looks like a virus.
It's not to my knowledge i may be wrong though

RAM is memory, like your hard drive, except it's for storing the variables of the current game.
If a game can't get enough RAM to run, it either won't run, or will run from a pagefile, which may impact preformance.
If the game can get enough RAM, then there's nothing else you can do for it. Try updating your Graphics Processing Unit.

..or download more RAM!

It's also worthwhile to know that most 32bit applications can only utilize 2GB of RAM anyway, even if you run them on a 64bit OS or on a system with more RAM available, you can do some registry editing to allow even 32bit programs to use more than 2GB of RAM, but it's time consuming.
An easier option is to download CFF explorer, install it, right click on an executable, click "Open with CFF Explorer" and go to "File Header" then find the bottom entry on the table (should be Characteristics) then click on the button that says "click here" at the right end of that entry, you can set it to use 2GB> of RAM by clicking a checkbox and pressing "Okay".

Probably completely useless in this situation, but it's handy to know

Then it isn't using more than 1gb of RAM because it doesn't need more than 1gb

Search for "gamename RAM patch/mod" in Google or something with the words "LAA" or "large address aware".

I heard you could use a hex editor to allow the game to use more RAM

don't ask me how it works, idunnolol. this could also be completely wrong.
