Author Topic: I need a headset ... (this thread again, sorry.) [rather long OP]  (Read 631 times)

locking, thanks for suggestions :)

tl;dr at bottom of this post if you don't like reading

Don't even bother saying any of these:

Turtle Beach (have a pair, no thanks)
Skullcandy (hipster bullstuff, decent bass and that's it)
Beats by Dr. Dre (see above)

That out of the way, I'm looking for a new headset. I was going to buy a pair of AKG however I refuse to order online, so that plan went out the window. I'm currently using Turtle Beach X11's and the sound quality is horrible, there's an awful buzzing noise all the time, the microphone is too sensitive and I think I blew the bass in them. They are, however, rather comfy on my head.

I bought SteelSeries Siberia V2 today after hearing many good things - they sucked loving eggs and I'm returning them. The sound quality sounded muffled, with or without the included USB soundcard. More importantly, they cannot be adjusted and they put a lot of pressure on my ears. I couldn't stand wearing them for more than 10 minutes. "Light suspension design" means nothing when they're way too small for me.

I need a new headset that is/has the following:
-Circumaural (goes AROUND your ears, does not sit on top of them)
-Full sized
-A trusted brand (no generic or unheard of please)
-Comfortable to wear for 8+ hours
-Big enough to fit anyone's head
-Ability to go very loud
-Deep bass
-Microphone (asking for headset not headphones in case you missed that part)

The headset must not have/be any of the following:
-Wireless
-Cheap in build quality
-More expensive than $150 (give or take $10)
-Hipster bullstuff (see: brands at the top of OP)
-Made specifically for Xbox/PS3 (I'm a bloody PC gamer)
-Be ordered online

I don't care about:
-How it plugs in (standard audio jacks, standard + USB, whatever, don't care)
-Color

TL;DR

No Turtle Beach, Skullcandy, Beats

I already tried SteelSeries Siberia V2, no thank you.

I refuse to order online.

I'm currently thinking either Razer Megalodon, or Logitech G35. If you have any other suggestions please let me know (because that's what this entire thread is for - I'm looking for a headset)

I use a pair of Razer Carcharias, they work nicely.

I would say Razer Carcharias as well, or if you really want to splooge your money, the Razer Megalodon which are absurdly unnecessary but really only for enthusiasts.  Personally, I have Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's, but they have no microphone because I have a separate microphone.

My brother has the 280 Pros. I borrowed them one time, and it sounds really nice.

I use Alienware headsets, I think they're called TactX or something like that. If I were you I'd go with those or Astros. For Alienwares though, that headset is pretty darn awesome.

my friend who is a really nice guy and really good with wires'n'stuff took apart beats, skullcandy and some alienwares.
he took some stuff from the beats, some stuff from the skullcandy, some from the alien wares, then he found these really nice headsets and took the shell of it (the comfortable part) and put it all together.
it is possibly the best thing any human being will ever experience in the history and future of audio waves.

They are.  If you have really great bass going, you can actually feel your headphones shake.

nvm, was gonna suggest a cheaper steelseries headset that I use

I'm fairly happy with my Creative SoundBlaster Tactic3D, but they do put a bit of strain on the ears.

Don't buy a headset.  Get a $100 pair of Sennheisers (the hd 439s are good), then a $10 Logitech mic.
