Author Topic: how to edit a file on a CD?  (Read 691 times)

as mentioned in games, I bought a second copy of GTA SA to mod, I modified my files by extracting the files, modding them from there, and what I need to do is I need to get the modified files onto the CD, how can I do this? I drag and drop it in, but it goes lolnope and opens the CD drive.

I'm assuming your disk is a CD-R or +R (or was that only for DVD's?).
As far as I know, only RW's can replace files on-disk. Though I'm not sure if it requires re-burning or if it can just drag-and-drop.

Assuming it's the retail copy, you can't do stuff. You'd have to write to a new disk.

Better yet; put the files on a bootable ISO image and mount it.

I assumed he was going to use the mod on a PC.

where did you read that
EDIT: never mind

also the tutorial dkamm linked said to use a memory card

It's impossible to put files on a retail CD.

I -think- you can copy the files from the CD too a USB drive (which btw would be a good investment to get a like, 16-32 GB USB flash drive) and run it from ulaunchelf.

Is this for PC or for PS2 or something?

You can't edit software / game discs. They are all DVD-R or CD-R and they will be encrypted and finalized. You can only edit un-finalized CD-RW, DVD-RW, or  blank -R discs.

If this is for console you'll want to burn it onto a blank disc. I believe you need a special chip or modification to the console to make it work don't you? I always thought companies prevented people running homemade game discs generally to prevent piracy.

If its PC make a fake disc using Daemon or something.

You have to rip the ISO off the disc, modify it, then burn it to a new disc. You then need to use a softmodded PS2/loaded memory card to run the burnt disc.
