Author Topic: How to plug in speakers? Need computer help!  (Read 1161 times)

Take a look at the back of the PC, if im right, they should plug in back there.

Did not read topic at all.

Anyways...

The top left one shows the expose wires. The bottom right one I'm holding is the other end of the other speaker with the plug not removed.

Right

I trust your motherboard has a HD Audio Header?

To get this to work, you will need to Connect Pins 7 and 10 together - this let's the computer know that something is connected to the headphone jack,
Attach both of the black wires from the speakers to the ground pin (2), then the left speaker's red wire to pin 9, and the right speaker's red wire to pin 5.

That should then result in the computer treating those speakers like any plugged into the front panel of a case.

You said in a post it was an internal computer speaker, I'm not sure why anyone is suggesting you connect it to an audio out header as those headers are for headphones and proper speakers. If you just want this to be an internal PC speaker (it would sound stuff as anything else), you need to find the 2 pin internal speaker header and solder on a connection similar to this:

In all honesty it's probably not worth your time. You can pick up these internal speakers that just beep for pennies on eBay.

Edit: just reread some stuff, looks like they are meant to be proper speakers. In that case, ditch them and get better speakers, they'll sound awful.

They came out of an old iMac. Trying to recycle as much as I can.

Thank you both. I will take a look at both options, but Rub's seems more straight forward. Fluff, are you suggesting I combine one wire into two for the ground? That seems troublesome.

Yes, the grounds on both speakers connect to ground.

For example, on this stereo jack, there are three sections - 1 ground shared by both speakers/headphones, then the individual left and right signals.
