I've actually been around Steam's friend max the past week. I don't talk to a lot of them, mainly for the same problem you're having - They don't use their normal names on Steam. Half of them I don't know where I added them from, so I'm not sure about removing them. I already cleared out the people who hadn't been on forever who I also don't remember.

Sadly, I know WLM has the naming feature you talk about. I actually accidentally set it a few times, then they'd talk about how their name has been different for months and I didn't notice. Point being: stuffty WLM has this feature - Why not Steam?

Yes it is. This includes friend invites.

I used to have around 123 friends and after I cut down the people I didn't talk to I had 8.

I'm going to wipe up my steam friends list too.  If you think I removed you in error or you have a good reason to do so, feel free to PM me or re-add me but otherwise I'm going to remove you if you have no real purpose.  Steam friends isn't a social network IMO, so it's not like I can add everyone I know.

Oh, did it get raised sorta recently?  Last I checked (like a year and a half ago lol) the max used to be 250.

I was looking it up, and apparently if you link your steam account to your Fb account you get an extra 50(Adds up to 300) friends. The limit might still be 250
