Periphery

Who are they?
Periphery is a progressive metal band from Maryland (more commonly known to play Djent). It's members consist of: Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen, Mark Holcomb, Matt Halpern, Spencer Sotelo, Adam "Nolly" Getgood

So what?
Well, I'm making this topic because their new album, Periphery II: This Time It's Personal, was released yesterday. Their first album, which was self-titled, was very successful and I'm personally a huge fan of the album. This new album is just as amazing. I know there are at least a few of you on here who enjoy this kind of music, so I made this topic to discuss the new album, talk about djent/metal, or convince any non-believers that this band is musically very skilled and talented, and the music is very powerful to listen to. So without further adue, discuss the album! I'm still listening to it for my first time, but I'm over half way done and I absolutely love it. I've noticed a change in Spencer's vocals, but it's not a horrible change. I don'tm ind it, it's just different...a little more whiny.

Entire band is love music.

I preordered P2, and I got it the day before release. I gots a T-shirt and a poster :3

To quote a conversation I had with ShadowsfeaR about it on Facebook:

It's soooo boor...... Sorry I fell asleep expressing how boring it was because it bored me so much to say it

not heavy anough for you lol

That's not it, I love melodic music
but not when it's basically Light repeated over and over and over and over and over and over
It's like they took all the melody from Light and all the heavy from The Walk and made an entire CD out of it
then they got a lousy Protest the Hero impersonator to do vocals

still gotta give spencer props for getting better lol

What did he improve on? Shifting his vocals from balls-clenched-in-a-clamp-Underoath-style cleans to trying-way-too-hard cleans?
And he improved his screams/low screams from embarassingly bad to just bad enough to ruin the riffs
whoopty doo

So yeah there's my thoughts on it- it was disappointing and boring as hell for me. The melodies got really stale, the techno bullstuff took up waaaayyyy too much space on the album, the heavy riffs sounded really out of place, the majority of the riffs were boring and Spencer still sucks at vocals.
The instrumental version of the first album is the only reason I love it so much, the melodies were still fresh and the album has definitely had a big impact on groove metal. However, I don't think even an instrumental version of this album could save it for me.
It's not bad by any means, but it's not great either, it's just.... Meh. I'd give it a 4/10.

Never heard of it, not too much into meta-

... from Maryland ...
