How can I transfer my BC2 files to Steam?

I already had the game installed, but I want to transfer the files to Steam so I don't have to redownload the game. I've done it with Tribes Ascend, but how do I do this with Bad Company 2?

At the top, Steam > Backup and restore games.

You can only back up and restore files you downloaded with Steam.
