(CNSNews.com) – A rural Oregon man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in jail and over $1,500 in fines because he had three reservoirs on his property to collect and use rainwater.

Gary Harrington of Eagle Point, Ore., says he plans to appeal his conviction in Jackson County (Ore.) Circuit Court on nine misdemeanor charges under a 1925 law for having what state water managers called “three illegal reservoirs” on his property – and for filling the reservoirs with rainwater and snow runoff.

“The government is bullying,” Harrington told CNSNews.com in an interview Thursday.

Pretty dumb IMO. Government trying control water, if 2012 happens I bet it's the fall of the government.

A 1925 law? That explains it.

A 1925 law? That explains it.

It's illegal in many states as of June I believe, could of been before that.

I could see if he was tapping into underground water supplies or something, but rain water?

if rain loving touches your property you should have the right to keep it, the government doesnt own the clouds

If you read it all completely it's extremely hard to pick who is in the right until you get more information. He says he is just collecting rain water while the government says he is actually damming up public streams. Whoever is telling the truth would be the one I'd have to agree with it is not right to jail someone for collecting rain water but it is also not right to screw with public water systems by blocking them. The guy did admit he had a dam and is claiming it is his property but the law says the government owns all water ways even if it is your property so he basically admitted guilt.

If he was illegally damming water ways, this is an okay punishment.

>"Show us your permits for this"
>"K, here they are"
>"We're gonna have to revoke these"
whut.
