Author Topic: Renting out VPS server  (Read 526 times)

I'm going to be renting out a server running ubuntu 12.04, to use this you mustbe able to pay online. There will be no contract however I will send you a bill of which you must pay within 7 days otherwise your login will be removed. If you would like to use this service then you can email me at info@webcodepro.co.uk.

To use this server it is required that you have some basic understanding of SSH and the linux terminal (However I usually just look-up the commands on the ubuntu website)

VPS means that its shared hardware as I will be using the server for remote ssh, apache, mysql, php and maybe a couple of games but probably not.

So far I have the ssh, apache, mysql and php installed and its using about 1-5% of resources.

There is a 500gb disk, I don't care how much is used as long as you don't take the piss and use the whole lot.

Pricing

Depending on what you want to use the server for really does depend on the pricing, it could be from 5 - 50 a month but 50 really would be if you were using most of the RAM, had loads of processes running and were using enough hard drives to put western digital out of stock.

if i'm paying more than $30/m for shared space i'd just buy a better windows server

Well yeah but that would be quite hard to get up to that much and it would only be so I could save enough money to get a better server to meet the demands of the people/person I'm letting it out to.

what?

setting up a VPS is like four clicks

Yes but if for instance you we're using my server(hardware) and you were using a lot of resources, I would need enough to afford a better server (hardware)

why would i be sharing your server if i could have my own server for the same price

What for 30? well it won't be half as good as mine for that price... hahaha

4GB RAM, 100megabits/s, SSD OS boot

plus a person who knows what the forget he's doing :cookieMonster:

I got 16gb of ram and a quad-core cpu which is okay. I have an ssd in my laptop and they're good but for machines that don't really get moved around I don't really see the point as it will only be a slight speed difference from a standard hdd.

I didn't say I don't know what I'm doing, I'm just not the best at the syntax on those Linux machines. Stop being so big headed and stop trying to show off.

what are you talking about?

if there's 8 people on that 16GB of RAM, 4GB is better than 2GB. SSD is better than a HDD because it's faster updating. you don't know what you're doing and i'd rather do it myself than do it from someone who's a newbie to servers. i'm not going to trust my servers with a 16 y/o kid

There will NOT be that many people using it and how many servers use solid state drives? Not many because the speed difference is really not that different you clearly haven't ever owned or used an ssd in your life.

speaking of which, any chance i could get a vps on your server, for some "pictures" and files?

Do you want space for files?

Mine or his and yes but I'll probably drop the price for you, unless your planning on using a lot of data, are you?

yes it is

6GB/s write time vs. 20GB/s write time

a LOT of servers use SSDs and they are superior

i'm not doing a thing with my server ATM
