Author Topic: Shader's not working!  (Read 9135 times)

Haha! He does a bit. Yay.

Hey, Jakob's dad, if you really are.

Yes, I use a Mac Mini with Mountain lion and I have the same graphics card as your son. Even more coincidental, I don't have shaders working for me either.

I dont have mountain lion. And I was speaking to my dad earlier of updating to mountain lion and shaders may work. I have proof that it won't. Sadly. :(

Shaders dont work on Mac Minis and anything to do with Intel?

only for people with a computer that dosnt have a video card.
then their video rendering has to be done with the processor instead of a real dedicated video card.
if that processor happens to be an intel one, then you cant have the shadows (unless there is a fix on the way)

nothing is wrong with intel as a cpu. just when it's used for video that it sucks.

though any integrated video would suck to run games on, regardless of brand. people who are playing blockland without a video card should be disabling shaders ANYWAYS.

that covers the intel problem.

mac minis i dunno. i dont see why it should matter what model of mac a person owns. but instead the operating system version they are using, or perhaps the hardware within it.

... or do all macs come standard in models, with all the insides just the same per whatever is stamped on the case on the outside lol
that would be incredibly lame.

but if its a new computer, it must be extensions that a bunch of people were suggesting.

i would try updating video card drivers (or downgrading a version)
perhaps the new hardware you have isnt all up to snuff with some openGL stuff

That's not how it works.  There is no cpu rendering going on, there is an intel graphics chip and that is the problem.

Intel makes processors, and they are fine processors - I use one my self.

Intel also makes a line low cost integrated video chipsets called the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator.  The Intel GMA chips are the problem.  Even if I do whatever glsl backflips are necessary to get shaders to work on them, they just don't have the horsepower to do it.  In benchmark tests Intel GMA chips are consistently outperformed by everything else, even years old bottom tier graphics cards.  I have a mac mini with an Intel GMA 945 and my main desktop is at least 25x as fast.  It's difficult to bridge that kind of gap.

There is another problem, he has an AMD Radeon 6630M, which should be modern enough to handle shadows.

What's wrong with it that makes it unable to run Blockland shaders?
