Author Topic: Anyone try V21 on Linux?  (Read 1490 times)

to say it's not meant to be a desktop operating system is pretty stupid

Obviously a mistake, he just clarified what his point was. Derp learn2readz.

Linux is a great operating system but it doesn't have the mainstream driver and software support it needs to actually be useful for day-to-day use. Yeah it's nice that there's a lot of free software, but most of the software is just people's personal projects and testbeds. Certain distros might work well for a netbook, but otherwise Linux should stay on servers where it's stability, security and multi-user architecture really shines.

My desktop computer running Ubuntu has been compatible with every single device I ever tried to use with it.

Nuts you are lucky. :c

Ubuntu used to be stuffty with my wireless card. Then Fedora had some other driver issue that I think was graphically related.

OpenSuse has been pretty sweet, I think I had to get an ethernet driver for that one... of course the drivers being there was good I guess.

he didnt retract what he said, only added to it

so it's still a handicapped thing to say

I asked this because Blockland was designed for Mac and Windows, not Linux. Blockland requires Wine to work on Linux. I was just wondering how the performance would have been.

I've found it runs fine for servers with no noticeable performance issues. Although once you start running 4 ish wine takes up as much CPU as Annother blockland

Because Linux isn't really meant to be a desktop operating system.
Linux is the Operating System that most people use to host their Website, Server, Game, etc.
