Author Topic: Good microphone to buy  (Read 907 times)

Making a band with you as the singer, eh?
using it for a number of things

singing isn't one of them

yet

Boom Microphones capture sound from all over.
   -   If you're in a room, it'll capture anything that happens from within that room, and quality depends on how small of a sound it can capture

Shotgun Microphones capture sound in a cone in front of them.
   -   If you're going for studio work, the shotgun mic is the best choice, as you aim it in the general direction of the person speaking, and you'll hear them, what they're doing, and anybody else next to them.  Think talk shows.

Then you have the rest, which can be small clip-on microphones for stage performances allowing only the person talking to be heard, or they can be desk microphones that capture only the sound within a small area near the head which would be ideal for gaming or voice recording for computer work.

What will you be using it for?  If it's going to be just some casual youtube type stuff, I'd go with the Blue Snowball (And also get a pop filter).  But if you're going for serious recordings, use the podcaster.

Also, here's a pretty good comparison of the two (except he doesn't use a pop filter or anything for the snowball, so it doesn't sound so good): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmjT4I8I1mo

yeah think i'm going to go with the podcaster. i'll buy it some time in the next week and post a audio quality video here once done

cheers

update: just ordered it then, should be here early next week (turns out i know a bloke selling them new-in-box, he got me a really good deal)

now, what program should i look into so far as recording goes?
