Author Topic: AMD Driver update broke my desktop  (Read 1472 times)

Don't know if anyone else noticed, but a Steam popup allowed you to update the drivers for your graphics card. I downloaded it and installed, and it forced my computer to restart. When it got back up, the resolution had changed to 800 x 600. I poked around in the settings to restore it, but the former resolution I had doesn't seem to be on the list. All the options look pretty bad and stretched.

Not only that, but it screwed up my desktop. All the shortcuts have been swapped around in no coherent order and arranged into a different pattern, so now I'm having trouble finding things.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Probably not, because most people don't install bad drivers when a third-party program tells them to.

Yes this happens from time to time. The desktop icon swap always happens, even when updating from the CCC. It's just the resolution change that re orders them. Best thing to do is go to the AMD website and download an earlier version if possible.

Now the toolbars can only use the default color.

forget it, i'm doing a system restore.

Or right click on my computer, select manage, go into the device manager, select your graphics card, and roll back the driver.

Thats stupid to do just for a driver problem.
