iPad- Cover or Case?

Apple being Apple recently released a Smart Case which was a bit more expensive than a Smart Cover

Let's looks at the Pro's and Con's of the Case:

Pro: It comes with a cover inbuilt and whenever you hold it up by the cover the weak magnets will not come off, dropping your £499 iPad on the floor
Con: It was made for the New iPad's thickness and will be flimsy on the iPad 2

Cover:
Pro: Looks thin and supports iPad 2 and the new iPad's thickness and does not make the iPad appear really damn thicker. Cheaper than the condom case

Con: Weak magnets, can drop to the floor with ease

I'll be ordering my first iPad soon. I intend to go for a smart cover because part of the tablet experience is being able to hold and enjoy your device. I feel cases tend to ruin the tactile experience, bulking up the device and making it feel less... well, smooth and "good in your hands".

The iPad is a little more sturdy than an iPod so entire protection doesn't seem as important to me. The biggest area of weakness is the screen, so I personally plan on getting a black smart cover.

I'd suggest that you don't hold an iPad by the cover, it is not designed to be used to dangle your iPad. You are asking for trouble if you dangle any device. Ensure the cover is over the iPad when you are moving, and is only ever open or folded when in use. It is not a handle.

I agree with you on all your points, my uncle wanted to break open his iPad 2 to replace his A5 chip with an A5X

Oh by the way if you only use a cover make sure you put it down on the cover side if you don't want to expose the iPad to damage. Everything can scratch. I hear iPad backs tend to get light scratches over time if the exposed back is put on tables.

My mum has got an iPad, I use it sometimes, I'd go with the cover if I were you, it has saved us a lot of times in the past.

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by this?

I've heard some people prefer the cover because it has more grip. Has it saved you from dropping it or have you dropped it already? Because if its the latter, no case will really help. :U

Well we have dropped it in the past and it hasn't broke.

Though we dropped it on a carpet, so it could really just be my imagination.
