Author Topic: Help - Changing Microsoft IME (Language)  (Read 844 times)

I am trying to use a Japanese game, which requires my operating system to work in Japanese. In the game's information was a link to a Japanese Microsoft Support page. It appears I need to use Microsoft IME to change my system's language to Japanese. When I searched, I found this is only legitimately possible if I upgrade from my Windows 7 Home Premium to Ultimate. Considering it'd be a waste of money to upgrade my entire operating system for this one game, is there a way I could still achieve this?

This is the Microsoft Support page the game links to for changing Microsoft IME: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932104/ja
This Microsoft Answers post... frustrates me: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/typing-in-multiple-languages-without-going/0a13622d-5a02-405a-a0ca-635de347a5e9

how strong is your computer? is running a virtual computer an option?

It's a moderate computer. Isn't a Virtual Computer/Machine just simulating an entire other OS, though? That doesn't sound much better.

It is only for one game right?

Yep. Japanese game which fails to run in default Latin English mode. Solution is supposed to be running Japanese IME or something like that, but I can't do that on Home Premium.

I got mine to german for free so you should be able to get japanese. But what game would require your os to be a language.

????
only downside is that \'s in Explorer will become 's for some reason ¥

every visual novel ever for some reason

Scientifical, are you trying to play hentai games again?

Control Panel>Clock, Language, and Region>Region and Language>Administrative>Change system locale...>Japanese (Japan)

IME is just for typing in another language. You have to change your locale to Japan to run Japanese programs that don't support unicode.

I've already been through there. It says to change Microsoft IME for it to read it correctly.

I said the Administrative tab, not Keyboards and Languages.

Like I said, it has nothing to do with IME. You need a compatible locale to run non-unicode programs. I have Japanese IME installed and I still can't run Japanese programs without changing my locale.

The game instructions themselves said Microsoft IME - don't blame me for that. As for keyboard... You're sure you didn't edit that out? I was sure you mentioned keyboard...

I think it's assumed your locale is already Japan if you're playing a Japanese game.

And I didn't edit anything out.
