Author Topic: Adventure Gamemode Discussion  (Read 1291 times)

I've been wondering something for a little while now, if someone was to make an adventure/story based gamemode would you rather it be singleplayer and/or multiplayer?

What would you like to see in it? What would you dislike?

Survival based (food/shelter/whatever), stage based (levels of a sort), etc?

Would you rather lots of shooting (For example some sort of campaign, like Half-Life or some FPS) or something like Amnesia (You don't really have weapons, doing puzzles/getting 'horrified'/escape some dungeon)?

Also while answering this don't think of limitations, just be creative.

i think there should be sections of shooting and sections with absolutely no weapons, as well as a story-oriented thing rather than a survival thing.

Full-blown fantasy RPG would of course be the best but I have a feeling it will be an action RPG á la Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

I'd not say multiplayer but rather singleplayer/co-op

This data may prove useful. Note that this data was collected before v21; We now have Game Modes.

That would be a big feat indeed.

So you're saying having like a max of 4 people or similar?

I've read it and honestly it doesn't seem to say much about how they would want the gamemode as. Still an interesting read, I'll take these into consideration.
Who made that btw?

Also; what type of genre? Horror/fps/rogue-like/'rpg'/puzzle/etc

I wouldn't mind a pirate theme. It seems to fit Blockland.

co-op horror / rogue like honestly

Take into consideration that a singleplayer mode would have many more interesting features.

For example fog level/lighting/sky can change depending where you are, cinematics could be queued (this can be done in multiplayer but may cause some undesirable effects) and story can be conveyed more easily. I'm not sure what else there could be but that's just off the top of my head

And for multiplayer it would of course be more entertaining because you're with others, could potentially have more complex puzzles requiring 2+ people, there would probably be some issues with players leaving mid-game or players joining mid-game. Lets say there's this Legend of Zelda gamemode, you're on the 6th temple and someone who's never played joins in those 5 temples already beat.

Multiplayer would probably require to be open-world/free roam/rogue-like (infinite levels? etc), if not you would play it once and be done with it (creating no incentive to host it). The whole reason it would be multiplayer is that you could play it more than once.

Singleplayer imo would not require that because honestly I usually just play a singleplayer game once and I'm done with it.
Everyone has different opinions on this, so I'd like to hear it
