Author Topic: How does this work?  (Read 550 times)

Ok so I got to the random part of youtube and randomly clicked this video:

I started reading the comments, and each time I read a comment that was mocking what it sounded like the kid was saying, it was like the kid was saying what I was reading. Trippy.

Try it.

Read the comments, everything they said, i heard.

Read the comments, everything they said, i heard.

Exactly.

This isn't anything special, it's how the human brain functions.

If you ever heard of post hypnotic suggestion, it's similar.  What you are experiencing is the power of suggestion, that you read something that is close to how a noise is made, then you "hear" the noise make the form of the sound.  I believe, through my research in AP psych on this last year, that it's a vestigial ability, meaning it played a role in cavemen, but lost its purpose.  I believe that a long time ago, when we hunted, if a hunter heard a sound, they would remember the sound briefly, but not perfectly, so that if they hear it again, and it's a similar sound, similar meaning it "sounds" exactly like it did before, then they would go after it.
